Sump pumps are important in ensuring that homes do not suffer water damage especially in regions that are likely to experience excessive rain, flooding, or those with high water tables. However, during sump pump installation or replacement, the question that arises in the mind of many homeowners is: Does a sump pump require a minimum basin height?
The easy answer is yes, but it is more than that. Let’s break it down.
What is a Sump Pump and How Does it Work?
Before we jump into the basin height requirements, it is good to know how a sump pump functions.
Purpose of a Sump Pump
A sump pump is a pump that is fitted at the lowest area of a basement or crawl space. It’s designed to remove accumulated water and prevent flooding. The pump is placed in a sump pit or sump basin, into which water is gathered by drainage or by natural ground water flow.
